A Hidden Oasis

Huntington Lake

Having spent many years on the beaches and downtown area of Huntington Beach, I was quite surprised I had never ventured just a little ways inland on Golden West to visit the Huntington Central Park.
The park is a serene oasis in the otherwise busy city of Huntington Beach. Huntington Central Park is the largest city owned park in Orange County and covers about 350 acres. It offers vast paved and some unpaved trails to stroll, bike, or find a nice quiet place to picnic. There are open grassy areas, wooded areas, creeks, lakes and lots of birds and other wildlife to enjoy.

As a matter of fact, it has been named a top location for birding. You can even fish for catfish, bluegill, largemouth bass, rainbow trout and crappie in the lake.

Within the park is the Park Bench Café, a dog friendly café, complete with a dog menu,  that is a great place to sit outside and enjoy a nice brunch in the natural surroundings.

Great Egret
The park also has a disc golf course, equestrian center and dog park, among other attractions. I still can’t believe that I had no idea such a beautiful escape existed, just outside of view of what I saw as Huntington Beach.
